The Donald G. Ivey Library contains over 25,000 volumes in circulating and reference collections in the social sciences and other fields. Special collections focus on New College programs in African Studies, Caribbean Studies, Disability Studies, Equity Studies, South Asian Studies and Women’s Studies. Women’s Studies is also supported by an important collection of journals and the Gender Studies Database, available campuswide and internationally.
Ivey Library has comfortable study areas located on both the mezzanine and lower levels, including upholstered chairs for leisure reading and study carrels and tables. The library provides a bright open study space with large windows overlooking the inner quad. The Student Council provides current magazines and newspapers for a relaxing read between classes.
The College Library in Wilson Hall has full wireless access for student laptops and houses twenty workstations providing access to the Internet, e-mail and electronic library catalogues. Also available are two of the College’s Student Computer Facilities (NCSCF).
New College students have access to all the materials in the University Library System including departmental and other branch libraries across the campus. The University of Toronto Library system is rated among the top 4 academic library systems in North America, containing over 15 million items.
